(A not so great shot of the purple house I live in. I have the back deck and room closest to the ceiling. I'll work get a better picture soon.)

(If you look closely you can see SFP pointing to the snow angel he just jumped out of the hot tub and made. Brrrrr.)

(For the US Mogul Worl Cup held at Deer Valley, the Wailers played halfway up the mountain last night, followed by a fireworks show.)

(Jeff with his VIP pass and James in a scarf, after the show.)

(Here's Kleinops dying to be a lifty again. He just picked up the phone and started talking to the top shack. It was hilarious. Our old boss was standing right there having a great time with us, and the new guy didn't know what to think. Haha)

coming through nevada

I had one of those moments.

elko
todd sheaffer & railroad earth

pull in from the desert road
park yer wagon, drop the load, & shut ‘er down
(poor boy you’re bound to die)

been a long hot desert ride
wasatch, bear river, devil’s slide and elko
(poor boy you’re bound to cry)

poor-boys & gamblers
road-dogs & ramblers
shuttin’ ‘er down for the night

winners & losers
hookers & boozers
drawn like a bug to the light

grab a whiskey at the bar
sit down to your deck of cards, throw your chips in
(poor boy you’re bound to die)

emerald, misty, violet, blue
got a winkin’ eye on you & all night to wait
(poor boy you’re bound to cry)

poor-boys & gamblers
low-dogs & ramblers
shuttin’ ‘er down for the night

winners & losers
hookers & cruisers
crawlin’ through the elko night

all alone, all alone
been so long on this dusty road
oh mama, i need a winnin’ hand

all alone, all alone
been so long on this dusty road
oh mama, i need a leg to stand on

mornin’ coffee, steak & egg, stretch the leg
down the road & rollin’
(poor boy you’re bound to cry)

she’s a camptown on the old U.P. Line
always shows up right on time, elko
(poor-boy you’re bound to die)

poor-boys & gamblers
road-dogs & ramblers
shuttin’ ‘er down for the night

winners & losers
hookers & boozers
drawn like a bug to the light

all alone, all alone
been so long on this busted road
oh mama, i need a winnin’ hand

all alone, all alone
been so long on this dusty road
oh mama, gimme a leg to stand on

the picture game

(Two Dollars and Sixty cents to whoever can tell me where I took this picture.)

I wrote this two days ago, but it’s just making it to the magical web today:

Jan. 7-
I’m settling in to my nest. It’s been snowing since my arrival, which made it tough to get all my stuff from the car to the nest. The room is great, it feels like a tree house. My bed is lofted way up in the top of the house with a window that looks out on the mountain and valley. I live just off the bottom of Main Street on Woodside. You can’t miss the house because it’s the only one that’s lavender. My landlady is a very sweet woman and she keeps a beautiful home. Her late husband was an artist, so every wall space is covered. Sandy told me that he actually invented the “pop tent.” You know the one that sets up by it’s self when you toss it in the air? Bill Moss is his name for all you hiking buffs, she said. Needless to say, the house has character in every direction. Sandy has lived here for a number of years and she’s a chef, so the house always smells good.

I’ll have pictures up of the house soon, I promise. It’s not as easy as it was now that I don’t have internet. but the library is just down the road. Like I said, it hasn’t stopped snowing since I’ve been here, so I’ve been indoors building the nest. Work starts tomorrow, skiing should be great, winter is looking good.

You can never trap your ego for good, but you can get it into a small enough space where you can see it bounce around out of the corner of your eye, constantly. It never leaves the periphery of your vision, but you never stare quite straight at it.

from the coolest chair ever

I just came to the Library to use the internet and stumbled onto the coolest chair. I'm actually typing to you from it right now. It's a swivel chair with a swivel desk attached to it. Simple, perfectly efficient, doesn't take up a lot of space. Two birds with one stone, a chair and a place to write on. Living in my new digs, I appreciate the perfectness of a chair like this in a way I wouldn't have ever before. Was that correct grammer Uncle Lloyd? It just kind of rolled out together- I wouldn't know where to break the cadence. Any who, there's a mother and a daughter in one of the aisles behind me, trying to pick out a book, and they're both telling the other how their head has been hurting. Still no book though.
Ohpp, Mom found a book she read when she was younger and really liked a lot. It;s about another culture, about a lady who goes on a walkabout to all these primative places and meets and studies all these primitive cultures. It's really fascinating, I really enjoyed it..." "Ok, Let's get that one." What a great moment.
Ok so I don;t have any pictures of the house yet, but I have some pictures from the sunset on Lake Tahoe from when I drove through.

Rocket Man
by Elton John

She packed my bags last night pre-flight
Zero hour nine a.m.
And I’m gonna be high as a kite by then
I miss the earth so much I miss my wife
It’s lonely out in space
On such a timeless flight

And I think it’s gonna be a long long time
Till touch down brings me round again to find
I’m not the man they think I am at home
Oh no no no I’m a rocket man
Rocket man burning out his fuse up here alone

Mars ain’t the kind of place to raise your kids
In fact it’s cold as hell
And there’s no one there to raise them if you did
And all this science I don’t understand
It’s just my job five days a week
A rocket man, a rocket man

And I think it’s gonna be a long long time...
